Only Natural Pet becomes first North American pet food and treat company to earn B Corp™ Certification

Only Natural Pet is proud to announce it has been certified as a B Corp from the nonprofit B Lab, becoming the first pet food and treat company in North America to earn designation. Certified B Corporations® are a new kind of business that balance purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. B Corp is a community of for-profit companies committed to using business as a “force for good”.

“For Only Natural Pet, the B Corp certification was the logical next step in our Company’s evolution,” said Marty Grosjean, Founder and President of Only Natural Pet. “Since our founding in 2004, Only Natural Pet has had a significant focus on sustainability as part of our philosophy, goals and brand identity. We have always been dedicated to transparency when it comes to pet health and by going through the B Corp assessment and becoming a Certified B Corporation, we are able to take our commitment to sustainability to the next level.”

Only Natural Pet is a founding member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), which strives to make the planet healthier for both humans and their pets. Only Natural Pet works closely with other industry leaders to set standards that cover everything from efficient facilities to sustainable products. As members of the PSC, Only Natural Pet already had exposure to parts of the B Corp assessment as PSC makes segments of it available to its members to help them assess their sustainability practices.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Only Natural Pet as a Certified B Corporation by meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability,” said Andy Fyfe, of B Lab. “By supporting B Corps, people are supporting businesses that are reducing inequality, lowering levels of poverty, designing a healthier environment, and creating more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. It’s up to each of us to think about our daily choices and vote every day. Only Natural Pet just made it easier to cast that vote.”

As a result of the B Corp assessment, Only Natural Pet found new areas of the business to focus on from a sustainability standpoint. Those areas included supply chain, day-to-day operations, and employee sustainability.

“It is so common to think sustainability is solely about our environment,” said Grosjean. “It’s not—it’s about also being good stewards of our community, our customers, and our employees. As a result of our B Corp assessment, we have identified new ways to ensure we are looking at sustainability from all angles. We want to invest in our employees, our suppliers, and our customers so that they will continue to invest in us.”

Give While You Shop! #IMAGINE5

Pet parents are known as a generous bunch. We spend $50 billion on our pets every year — $5 billion on pet holiday gifts alone! This Holiday Season, Only Natural Pet is making it easy to shop for your pets and help out an animal in need. For the second year, Only Natural Pet is proud to partner with BlogPaws Be the Change for Pets to make life a little better for the 7.6 million pets who enter shelters across the United States every year.

For every purchase of a toy, treat, bed or accessory, Only Natural Pet will donate 5% of the purchase value to pets in need. Five lucky shelters will split the final donation.

Here’s how you can nominate your local shelter! Share or mention the #IMAGINE5 hashtag on Facebook, Twitter, in a blog post, or post to any other social media. Then register your local shelter using this link and your shelter will be entered to win one of 5 grand prizes. There is no limit to the number of shares, but only one entry per person. So spread the word – and the holiday spirit—by shopping early and often to help give back to pets in need.

EPA to Increase Restrictions on Spot-On Flea and Tick Products; Cautions consumers to use extra care

“The EPA is committed to better protecting the health and safety of pets and families in all communities across our nation,” said Steve Owens, assistant administrator of EPA’s Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances. “New restrictions will be placed on these products, and pet owners need to carefully read and follow all labeling before exposing your pet to a pesticide.”

From the ASPCA on this issue;
“The ASPCA supports the EPA’s focus on clear labeling to distinguish dog products from cat products,” says Dr. Steven Hansen, ASPCA veterinary toxicologist and Senior Vice President Animal Health Services. “This alone could save cats’ lives. Improving the precision of the amount applied will also increase the margin of safety for very small pets.”

Comments : We at Only Natural Pet Store believe there are better ways to handle fleas and ticks (as well as flies, mosquitoes and other pests) without using dangerous pesticides. See our Holistic Health Care Library articles on fleas for extensive information on these hardy insects.

Dogs can tell the difference between growls

Not all growls are alike to dogs, especially “My Bone” growls, according to a new study published in the journal Animal Behavior.

Comments :No surprise to dog lovers; we’ve always known our dogs had an extensive vocabulary. One thing though, the article makes reference to a “freshly cooked, meaty and juicy large calf bone in a bowl.” We would not suggest using cooked bones with your dogs, as they can splinter. Raw meaty bones are a great treat because they do not splinter and they are great for cleaning the teeth and providing extra nutrients, but they should not be cooked.

AT&T sees big cash in small gizmos like dog collars

A wireless dog collar set to hit the market this year is just one of a plethora of new devices the telephone company hopes will catch on with U.S. consumers.
The collar could send text messages or emails to the owner of a pet when it strays outside a certain area, or the device could allow continuous tracking of the pet.
